Stok'd

Privacy Policy

Effective June 24, 2026

Stok'd is a surf‑forecast app and website (stokd.surf). We built it to be private by design: there are no accounts, no advertising, no tracking, and we do not run third‑party analytics. This policy explains what that means in practice.

What we collect

Essentially nothing on our servers. We do not require an account and we do not collect names, emails, or personal profiles.

Location (optional). If you grant location access, your coordinates are used on your device to rank nearby surf spots by distance. Your precise location is not transmitted to us.
ZIP code (optional). If you type a ZIP to set your area, that ZIP is sent to a third‑party geocoding service (Zippopotam.us) to look up coordinates. We don't store it.

Stored on your device only

Your preferences, starred spots, last‑known conditions, and chosen location are saved locally on your device (and removed when you delete the app). They are not uploaded to us.

Third‑party services we contact

To show forecasts, the app requests data from these providers. They receive surf‑spot coordinates (which are public) and, for ZIP lookups, the ZIP you enter — not personal data about you:

Open‑Meteo — weather, wind, and marine/swell forecasts.
NOAA Tides & Currents — U.S. tide data.
Zippopotam.us — ZIP‑code geocoding.

Diagnostics

The iOS app may use Apple's on‑device MetricKit to receive crash and performance reports. These are processed by Apple / on your device. We do not use third‑party analytics or advertising SDKs.

Children

Stok'd is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.

Your choices

Location is optional — the app works fully without it. You can grant or revoke it any time in your device's Settings.

Changes

We may update this policy; the effective date above will change accordingly.

Forecasts are estimates and not safety guarantees. Surf, tide, wind, and ocean conditions can change quickly — always use local knowledge, lifeguard warnings, and personal judgment.
